Ukraine may initiate entering the European Union only upon achieving the European standards of the economic development.
According to an UNIAN correspondent, Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych claimed this to journalists in the Cabinet of Ministers today, commenting on the decision of the EU Foreign Ministers Council that the new enhanced agreement between Ukraine and EU will not include any provisions on the country’s EU membership perspectives.
“This is natural, as Ukraine is not ready to enter. Ukraine needs to solve numerous internal problems, including boosting the economics level and living standards, harmonizing the legislation with the European one, and so on”, he said.
The Prime Minister is convinced that the new Ukraine-EU agreement must be more concrete and give an opportunity to bring the Ukrainian economic standards to that of the European economics.
“And this is the most important. As soon as we achieve this level, we will be able to submit an application to enter”, he noted.
