President supports Georgia’s peace efforts
"Georgia offered a good plan to settle the conflicts"
Ukraine supports Georgia’s efforts to resolve its local conflicts, Victor Yushchenko said in Tbilisi on Thursday, according to the President`s press-office.
“The Georgian government and the President of Georgia have offered a good plan to settle the conflicts,” he said, calling for the resumption of peace talks.
“Thus we say that this first step should be taken as soon as possible under the aegis of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe or the United Nations, and involve friendly countries.”
The President said other countries’ military presence impeded the progress of the talks: “There is a simple rule: laws are silent when grenades explode.” He also said it was important to help refugees return to Georgia.
“These are the key steps. The international community can, of course, play an important role in the settlement of these conflicts,” he said, adding that Ukraine was ready to help.
