President met PACE members
He complained about changes to the constitution
President Victor Yushchenko and his chief of staff, Viktor Baloha, met with PACE members Hanne Severinsen and Renate Wohlwend on Monday, according to the President`s press-office.
The President complained that changes to the constitution passed in 2004 undermined stability in Ukraine, disrupted the work of the Prosecutor General’s Office, courts and the Interior Ministry, and deprived him of most of the legal instruments to react to these challenges.
Mr. Yushchenko reiterated his intention to form a commission of prominent community members to amend the country`s supreme law. He said it was incumbent on him “to end divisions and bridge all differences” and to make those in government protect national interests.
They also spoke about the Gongadze case and whether any of those who rigged the presidential elections in 2004 were punished.
