Victor Yushchenko met with former Estonian President Arnold Ruutel on Tuesday. They spoke about how to develop Ukraine’s ties with Estonia and exchanged views on the country’s escalating political crisis, according to the President`s press-office.
The Ukrainian leader said Ukraine’s most important current and strategic task was to achieve national unity and "make the nation compromise on important issues like history, the country’s present, its place and role in EU processes.” He suggested that Ruutel lecture at Ukrainian universities to share his experience of how to harmonize society.
Estonia’s former president said it was important to develop scientific, cultural, economic and democratic cooperation between the two countries.
“I support cooperation between our countries and nations, especially civil initiatives…,” he said.
