Serbia hopes in 2012 to start negotiations with the European Union concerning membership.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, Vice Prime Minister of Serbia for European Integration Bozidar Djelic said this on January 17 delivering a speech at the meeting of the Committee on foreign affairs issues of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

“The goal of Serbia is to receive a status of candidate for membership in the EU and it is also very important to fix a date of beginning of negotiations on entry for the spring 2012”, he said.

Moreover, according to the words of the Vice Prime Minister, 2011 will be also important for Serbia because this year it is planned to start a dialogue with Kosovo and achieve some results.
