Ukraine is concerned over the attack on peacemakers in Sudan, according to the respective statement of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. The statement reads as follows:
In Ukraine, we learned about the attack on peacemakers of the African Union Mission in Sudan (AMIS) in the result of which 10 soldiers of the Mission were killed and 50 disappeared without a trace on September 29, 2007 with great agitation.
This attack which became the greatest one since quartering of AMIS in 2004 testifies to escalation of tension in the Sudanese province of Darfur.
Ukraine as the entire international community believes in peace negotiations between official Khartoum and the rebellious groups of the province on October 27, 2007 in the Libyan capital Tripoli.
In Ukraine, we hope that achievement of comprehensive peace in Darfur would put an end to the humanitarian catastrophe which took lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
