On October 5, 2007 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk as the head of the Ukrainian delegation took part in the session of the Council of Heads of the CIS states, according to the MFA press-service.

 In the course of the session, 20 items on agenda were considered. The head of the Ukrainian delegation signed 10 documents (3 of them with reservations) and approved 2 protocol resolutions.

Among the main results of the CIS Summit, there are approval of the CIS Further Development Conception and the Plan of the main measures of its implementation as well as approval of the resolution on coordinated immigration policy of the CIS member states.

 Among the documents signed by Ukraine, there are the Interstate Programme of Joint Measures of Crime Control for 2008 – 2010, the Programme of Cooperation of the CIS member states in control of illegal circulation of narcotic substances for 2008 – 2010, the Programme of Cooperation of the CIS member states in control of terrorism and other violent displays of extremism for 2008 – 2010, the Agreement on Cooperation of the CIS member states in control of theft of cultural values and securing their restitution.

 An important element of the Conception is inclusion of the Ukrainian proposals into it, especially those initiatives which relate to economic and social blocks. In particular, the matter concerns completion of formation of the full-fledged free trade area and further improvement of its legal base taking into consideration the WTO standards and regulations. Among the economic projects, annual analysis of application of protective, antidumping and compensatory measures, construction of a network of fast passenger communication and a system of regional airports, cooperation in the sphere of space and missile technology and exploration of space were supported.

 In addition, the Ukrainian initiatives in immigration sphere, settlement of social problems and development of a new programme of counteraction to HIV/AIDS were also supported.

 By the results of the session of the Council, President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev was elected its new chairperson and Sergiy Lebedev was elected the head of the CIS Executive Committee.
