In an interview with Israel 10 in Jerusalem on Tuesday, President Victor Yushchenko said it was important to “intensify Ukraine’s political dialogue with Israel at governmental, business and public levels”, according to the President`s press-office.
When asked about ethnic relations in his country, the president replied: “To my mind, anti-Semitism and xenophobia are not characteristic of Ukraine’s society.”
He said his government always promptly responded to all manifestations of anti-Semitism and added that there was no hostility towards Jews among Ukrainian officials.
Speaking of the situation in the Middle East, Yushchenko said Ukraine would make its contribution to the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
