President Victor Yushchenko met with Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly members Renate Wohlwend and Hanne Severinsen, according to the President`s press-office.

At the beginning of the meeting President presented to Hanne Severinsen the order “For Merit” of the second degree for personal contribution into cooperation development between Ukraine and Council of Europe. “ I thank you for your tremendous work which you have done in order democracy in Ukraine renewed”, - said . Yushchenko.

President highly evaluated efforts and position of the Council during pre-term parliamentary elections in Ukraine. To president partly owning to urgent debate conducted in Parliamentary Assembly as well as to PACE observers work these elections were transparent and democratic.

From her part H. Severinsen also characterized these elections as “fair, democratic and transparent”.

During the talks President acquainted H. Severinsen and R. Wohlwend with main directions of political situation development in Ukraine.

Sides have also dwelled on possibilities of PACE issuing official condemnation of Holodomor 1932-1933 in Ukraine and honoring memory of millions of Ukrainians deceased because of artificially purposefully arranged famine.

President also reminded that on December 20  Ukrainian side sent its candidature list for Judge from Ukraine in European Court of Human Rights and stressed iportance of that list considered by PACE.
