Yushchenko outlines main problems in Ukraine-Russia relations

“I will not say that these relations have been easy..."

President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko is satisfied with the dynamics of the Ukrainian – Russian relations development.

According to an UNIAN correspondent, the President of Ukraine said this today, delivering a speech at the Europe – Ukraine International Forum.

“In my opinion,  the dynamics of these relations  is very good both in the political and business aspects”, said V. Yushchenko.

The Head of State is confident that the relations between Ukraine and Russia got more pragmatic character than some years ago. According to the words of V. Yushchenko, as of today, the level of mutual confidence and respect for the national politics both of Ukraine and Russia have considerably increased. “I will not say that these relations have been easy. It seems to me that there were never easy relations with neighbors because we speak about an extremely wide range of problems”, he said.

At the same time, according to the words of V. Yushchenko, the mistake of the bilateral relations is the absence of a free trade zone, accorded tariff and customs policy.

According to the words of the President, these are the problems, which give rise to the negative dynamics of the bilateral trade between Ukraine and Russia.

According to the opinion of the President, the problem in the energy sphere also needs settlement. “But the Ukrainian power and me will do everything for these relations have a confidential and pragmatic character”, added the Head of State.
