A two-year boy named Daniel, whom his Danish father had been holding at the Danish embassy premises in Kyiv amid a spat with the child's mother, who is a Ukrainian national, was finally returned to the latter.
It was Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin who broke the good news.
"Daniel and his mom are out of the Danish embassy. They are on their way home. The parents concluded an agreement and will further raise their son together. I am thankful to my Danish colleagues, especially my friend [foreign minister] Anders Samuelsen and all who provided assistance from the Ukrainian side. We did everything possible to make sure that the case is settled least traumatically for the child," Klimkin wrote on Twitter.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 7, a Zaporizhia-based Ukrainian woman, Anastasiya Malapura, launched a solo rally outside the Danish embassy in Kyiv claiming her son had been "kidnapped" by his father, Danish national Jan Mogensen, and since held at the Danish embassy premises.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry intervened, and Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin asked his Danish counterpart Anders Samuelsen to help settle a dispute.
