Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Member of Parliament of Ukraine Refat Chubarov has said if the Russian Federation is not deprived of its veto right at the UN Security Council, the organization will become dysfunctional.

"The president very clear said this, and we need to look for allies on the issue of depriving Russia of the veto right at UN Security Council. Otherwise, the UN will continue to turn into an organization that is unable to do anything," he told one of the Ukrainian news TV channel, an UNIAN correspondent reports.

Chubarov also believes Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko gave a very clear message to the world community during his speech at the UN General Assembly.

"When you call on Russia to stop hostilities, you call for the end of war, and when you call on Ukraine to stop protecting yourself, you call on Ukraine to abandon sovereignty. I will add that this means Ukraine will never agree to cede its sovereignty."

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at the UN General Assembly in New York City on Wednesday, February 20 that it was time to deprive Russia of its veto right at the United Nations.
