Yatseniuk announced this at a meeting of the organizing committee for the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism in Europe and the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

"This 70th anniversary is being marked when the Russian Federation has launched military aggression against Ukraine, and the history has taken a very dramatic twist: 70 years ago we were fighting side by side against Nazism and won, and now the Russian Federation, which together with Ukraine was a defeated army in World War II, has waged war against the Ukrainian state," said Yatseniuk.

According to him, the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the victory over Nazism "is not only historical, but also a milestone.

"Attempts by the Russian Federation to rewrite the history, to privatize the victory in World War II, and monopolize this sacred and historic struggle against Nazism must be prevented, and Ukraine is among the nations who won World War II. Ukraine is a founder of the United Nations. Ukraine's losses during World War II accounted for 40% of total human and material losses; Ukraine's population shrank by 14 million as a result of World War II, and that is why we are a winner nation: we fought against Nazism and we need to mark this event and honor every World War II veteran, everyone who was fighting during the Great Patriotic War," Yatseniuk said.

According to him, the task of the Ukrainian government now is to pay tribute to every person and to demonstrate the historical truth of what happened 70 years ago, and prevent a repeat of such tragic and terrible events that occurred last century.
