Poroshenko to grant extraordinary authority to law enforcement
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during his visit to Zakarpattia that he may soon submit to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law on granting the law enforcement agencies extraordinary authority to fight terrorism, an UNIAN correspondent reports.
"If people come out on the streets, [being armed] with automatic rifles and machine guns, given they are not law enforcement officers, this uniquely qualifies them as terrorists. Therefore, the law enforcement agencies obtain clear grounds to treat them as terrorists, accordingly. After studying such experience, I do not exclude that in the near future I will submit to the Parliament this legislative norm,” said Poroshenko.
According to the president, he means creating a legal framework for the "extraordinary authority of law enforcement agencies".
