"Everything is being done now so that there is no surge in cases when we could be unable to provide qualified medical care over the overloaded healthcare system. Today we have 1,207 ventilators. The shortage we are trying to cover is 347 units. But our main goal is to have as few people as possible who will need these devices," he said during a morning TV show, "Snidanok z 1+1," on April 6, 2020.

According to Stepanov, the situation may become critical for Ukraine when the number of cases reaches 10,000-12,000. This will be a heartbreaking burden on Ukrainian doctors.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Stepanov said specialists in various fields of health care, in particular, emergency room doctors and cardiologists, had taken part in developing a protocol for treating patients who tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
