The United Nations has announced Russia will chair the United Nations Security Council in September 2019.

"For the month of September, Russia takes on the rotating presidency of the Security Council," the UN wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

Russia will hold the monthly presidency of the UN Security Council after Poland.

The presidency of the Council will be held by South Africa in October, the United Kingdom in November, and the United States in December.
