Communist Party supporters in Russia celebrated International Workers' Day, or May Day, on May 1, carrying imperial slogans and portraits of Stalin.

Among the slogans were the following: "Novorossiya is the Shield of Russia" and "U.S. – Hands off Our Pensions."

Novorossiya, or New Russia, is referred to two self-proclaimed republics in Donbas, eastern Ukraine: the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR), both of which share a border with Russia.

A photo report from Reuters Moscow and Eugene Feldman (Novaya Gazeta) is available here:

In St. Petersburg, a column of people at a May Day rally were carrying the Russian and Ukrainian flags, the Union Jack and flags of other countries, and singing the Ukrainian national anthem.
