The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the world exceeded 4.7 million patients as of the morning of May 18.

As many as 4,716,931 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases had been reported as of 08:32 on May 18, according to the Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases dashboard by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The overall death toll is 315,244 people, while 1,734,631 coronavirus patients have already recovered.

The three countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic include the United States (1,486,757 confirmed cases), Russia (281,752), and the United Kingdom (244,995).

The highest death toll was recorded in the United States (89,562 people), the United Kingdom (34,716), Italy (31,908), France (28,111), and Spain (27,563).

As many as 188 countries have been affected by the virus.
